50 years prior to 1978 there were no contemporary buildings anywhere within the Pike Place Market Historic District. The early twentieth-century open-air emporium was surrounded by only industrial buildings. It was the concept of Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects to develop a retail and residential complex within a few steps of Seattle’s most famous collection of shops, restaurants and independent stalls.
Pike & Virginia blends into the industrial styled neighborhood with a building conceived as a series of glass boxes connected by a frame of concrete. It’s simple yet expressive; comfortable yet trendy; approachable yet exclusive. No wonder it received the AIA Honor Award in 1979. The floor plans are wide, the windows are big, the decks are large and the views are huge. Rarely are homes available on the market.
When you live in the city, short distances become valuable. There are few properties where your door can open and be so close to the market as this lovely location.
