Waterfront

Elliott Bay. Salish tribes lived and fished here; in 1792 Capt. Vancouver visited here; it was surveyed by Midshipman Sam Elliott in 1841 and in 1851 it was settled by men known as Denny, Yesler, Maynard and Bell. They camped on the forested slopes and muddy tidal flats; they built pilings & piers, streets & avenues and developed a community along its shores. The Steamer Portland made it a national celebrity weighing anchor in 1897 with “A Ton of Gold.”

Waterfront neighborhood contains the most history, the best views and the most attractions in a long yet skinny district. From below Mrytle Edwards Park, following south along Elliott & Alaskan Way to the Colman Dock it’s the most valuable 1.3 miles of real estate in Seattle. Circling seagulls charm the chattering crowds roaming from Piers 54 to 70 as they smell the briny salt air around Waterfront Park, the Aquarium, the Cruise Terminal or Olympic Sculpture Park.

A visit to the nostalgic Ye Olde Curiosity Shop and a quick “Hello” to Sylvester & Sylvia is a must.
