The contrasts in this 5-story building are substantial. The first three floors were built in 1914 and offer the classic exposed brick, high timbered ceilings and large windows of the era. The upper two floors sit atop the brick structure and offers modern homes that fit with the trendy Belltown neighborhood. The original building was renovated in 1999 by developer and architect Carolyn Geise at the time when the upper two stories were added.
81 Vine contains 20 homes the majority being unique tall-ceiling New York style lofts in the bottom three floors which was originally built as a warehouse. The upper floors offers 1-bed, 2-bed and 2-story loft floor plans. The rooftop terrace has wonderful views and an innovative water retrieval system. Rain is collected to avoid running-off into Elliott Bay and then used to to feed the planting beds on the roof and surrounding landscape.
The bio-filtration system is disguised inside an exterior sculpture designed by artist Buster Simpson contrasting it even more from other Belltown condos.
