Seattle Magazine Best of 2010 Event Photos

I generally like to pat myself on the back for taking good photos, but these ones are pretty dull.  I had to borrow the neighbors camera since I had some technical difficulties with my own, but the event itself was much better than the quality of my pictures.  The place was packed, and it seemed like I was the only one double fisting because I was holding my dates glass while everybody else was double fisting because they had two drinks.  Everybody looked sharp, the food was great and the wine was plentiful.

Unfortunately I had to leave early even though I had arranged to get a picture taken with the Presidents of the United States of America, but this is the second party I’ve attended that was hosted by Seattle Magazine (crashed the first one) and both have been a really good time.  Anyhow, for those of you that missed it, here’s a glimpse of what was missed.

Party of the Decade w/ Seattle Magazine Nov. 18th

Seattle MagazineFood?   Music?  Drinks?  Dancing?  Pool?  Air-hockey?   Drinks?  Music?  Food?  An opportunity to contribute to a community-based, non-profit oranization supporting our Farmer’s Markets?

Say yes to any or all of those and you qualify to attend Seattle magazine’s Best of 2010 Party!

As soon as I heard about the event, I did everything I could to move this there, push that elsewhere and secure a date! The lineup of participating restaurants includes an extensive list of  THE best in Seattle including Anthony’s, Boka, Cupcake Royale, Ponti and TASTE just to name a few.  And the wineries… lol  I’m going to have fun and so are you if you decide to go.

This is one party you will NOT want to miss! Roll up to the purple carpet, grab a glass of Nicolas Feuillatte champagne and let Butler Valet take care of parking your car. Indulge your tastebuds on delectable bites, both sweet and savory, from 28 of Seattle’s best restuarants, including a special Tom Douglas showcase! Use your keepsake glass to sample wine from 20 award-winning Washington wineries, grab a glass of crisp Trumer Pilsner or get a caffeine fix from Caffe Vita. Plus each guest will receive TWO drink tickets for signature cocktails featuring Effen Vodka, Makers Mark and Hornitos Tequila (additional drink tickets will be available for purchase at the event).

Of course this event is MUCH more than just pleasing your palate! Expect to see Seattle magazine’s own “Seamless in Seattle” designs throughout the venue along with performers from Teatro Zinzanni! Challenge your friends to a game of pool, air hockey or skeeball in our game room or dance the night away in our Decade Lounge! PLUS, we will have LIVE PERFORMANCES FROM The Presidents of the United States of America, The Head and the Heart, THEESatisfaction and Ravenna Woods.

I wonder if there’s a rule somewhere about double fisting while wearing a suit? One would think that it ups it’s level of class by a point or two. Hmm. Anyway, I’m going and excited to mingle with you all to celebrate not only what will be a new year but a decade of a new millennium.

You can get more information on the Seattle Magazine website, and purchase your tickets online through Brown Paper Tickets.

Where it’s at in downtown Seattle: Halloween 2010

Why I Love Seattle Reason #3 There’s so much to do!  Granted, there’s no rollar rink or indoor surfing anywhere downtown, but Halloween is one holiday of the year where Seattleites have a variety of things to do outside of… all the things to do.  But, before I highlight our best Halloween events and a couple local places to costume shop, here’s 10 of 20 + 1 of this years best costume ideas from TIME magazine.
  1. OLD SPICE GUY – No comment other than, Good One!
  2. DOUBLE RAINBOW – This guy has certainly earned a spot in my heart and is in my top favorite YouTube videos of all time.  This might also be an excellent choice given his Microsoft endorsement for Windows Live photo editing software.
  3. JUSTIN BIEBER – Since we have the same initials, and changing my Facebook profile to JB prompted two of my “friends” to delete me, this would be my first pick.
  4. OILED MERMAID – A truly scary costume and I don’t vote for making a mockery of it’s reference.  However, that doesn’t mean if you chose to, we wouldn’t be more than happy to assist you in the purchase of a downtown condo…
  5. LEVI JOHNSTON FOR MAYOR - #5?
  6. A WITCH, CHRISTINE O’DONNELL STYLE – O’Donnell is a popular choice this year for admitting that she did, really did, dabble in witchcraft.  This however is not the only scary fact about the Senate nominee.
  7. KANYE WEST’S TWITTER FEED – Follow Kayne here.
  8. MAMA GRIZZLY – …I don’t want to start anything.
  9. THE CAST OF JERSEY SHORE – Even though I’m sorry to admit have not seen 5 seconds of this show even once, I’m disappointed to see it’s only TIME magazine’s #9.
  10. A NA’VI –  I love movies.  Sometimes, I even enjoy a good chick flick like Love Happens filmed right here in Seattle.  I enjoyed Avatar.  I enjoyed it at the theater, in 3D.  On the TV at home, it has been one 0f the only movies I’ve turned off.  Still, this would be a fantastic and challenging costume for someone who spares no expense in creating an impressive ensemble.  Word of mouth has it that downtown Bellevue’s, Bellevue Alterations owner Mimi Vilay is the person to go to for such costumes.  Word of mouth also has it that she gets extremely busy and unavailable right about now, as well as her phone number being 425-451-4403.  You cannot visit her website here.

A couple other notable favorites include Ninja Steve Jobs, Sad Keanu and Mark Zuckerberg.  You can see the rest of TIME Magazine’s top 20 here.

BONUS: Best Costume for 2010 #20

Lindsay Lohan in Jail – I just wanted to give a special shot out to an old girlfriend–a girl I like to call, “the redhead.”  Apparently her new boyfriend picked out a Star Wars costume this year, but after witnessing her give out autographs this would have been way better;)

Moving on, let’s say you just need an itchy mask or in need of a purple pair of sneakers and hoodie for your Bieber costume.  Where do you go?

There are dozens of other frightful things to do this Halloween, but these are the most popular and noteworthy happenings for downtown.  If you would like to share a unique event in the downtown area, please email me something as simple as a link and we’ll add it to the list.

Once a year, Seattle screams & shouts PINK!

RegistrationDave is a very professional, mature and business savvy person.  I’m savvy too, but of a different sort.  With Dave you’ll get our Buyer 101 tips and he loves doing our Seattleite Spotlight.  What you get with me is soft and sappy material on how great this place is.  I’m the type of guy that just can’t help but to crack myself up when tears gush from my eyes during the scene in Alice and Wonderland where she counts five impossible things before stating number six–she can slay the Jaborwokey!  Inspiration is more important to me than anything in the world (other than the time I’m going to spend tomorrow with my hot date)!

I start with this because today I was riding my bike home from making hot dogs at the ballpark and there’s ladies and men (mostly ladies) decked out in allllll pink!  It’s the Susan G. Komen 3-Day day walk for finding a cure for breast cancer.  It’s AWESOME!  It’s inspiring, and that’s what you’ll get around here.  I dare you to watch this and tell me you’re not moved…

You can donate, shop pink or be a spectator to support their cause!

A little bit of lovely, compliments of the Blue Angels

Yes, we took these pictures.  We didn’t get them stored on a memory device by a couple tourists when getting some work done at the cafe.  It’s almost rather embarrassing because it’s almost too obvious that they were posing just for us.  We hoped they’d turn out more natural…

Blue Angels Posing for Seattle Savvy

Blue Angels Posing for Seattle Savvy

Really though, we stood on the rooftop of the Montreux trying to hide from the rain and only got one which was certainly worthy of being deleted.  With a pretty good 360 degree view from that building, in addition to our school boy-like excitement to post some pics of such a unique and large yearly festival, we were sure we’d get at least one good one.  You hear them coming from the east, then you catch them neener neener neenering at you to the south.  Finally they set-up for the shot we asked them for of them slipping along side the Space Needle, but our camera’s zoom and speed was off.  After reviewing the pic, we knew what we had to do.  We had to send a text message to the pilots begging for one more shot.

Now, these guys are not the type of guys who generally let you slide with a mulligan, but fortunately we’re good friends.  We weren’t even expecting the guys to reply considering how focused they must be flying multi-million dollar fighter jets in formation with just an arms reach between them, but Dave’s Droid vibrated within seconds with a text that simply said, “for you guys, one more.”  Because we know these guys so well, we knew they weren’t going to make the second time around easy.  Since Dave screwed up the first pic, and I Justin am better friends with them anyway, this time I armed myself with the camera on, the speed high, and the zoom up to about 75%.  With Dave attentively doing circles looking up into the sky, and me positioned in a horse-stance, we were sure to get this one!

Not long after we really got prepared, we heard the roar from the west…

“Ohhh Dave, this is going to be a good one,” I said with a wink.  Dave gave me his infamous 2-fingered point and nodded in agreement.  Facing west, camera held tightly and steady below my chin, Dave shout’s “THERE THEY ARE! GET EM GET EM GET EM!”

CLICK!

Unfortunately, my Call of Duty Modern Warfare II skills are not complimented by the reflexes of a 14-year old boy.  The shot, a blur.  With our heads hung low, we walked in shame to get a drink of java where we looked at our pathetic picture and attempted to convince each other that maybe the Blue Angels pilots will still consider us friends.  But before we fully agreed we failed, I pointed at a young couple who was uploading they’re pictures of this amazing Seafair performance we all look forward to every year.  They must have overheard us, because they were quick to ask if we had a memory stick for us to say we had succeeded with scoring their pics.  I’d say for such a gray day, we actually did pretty good!

Enjoy this video showing 2010 air show performance!
