What argument do waterfront critics have to say?

Nothing really.  I’ve covered more of my thoughts regarding critics of the viaduct replacement on the Seattle PI, but if you have an extra 88 minutes and looking for some good entertainment, here’s a fun video by those who oppose Seattle’s new tunnel and replacment solution for the crumbling viaduct.

GUSTAFSON GUTHRIE NICHOL

Seattle | London
The local complexities of human experience and natural systems are deeply embedded into GGN’s landforms. This creates landscapes that are serenely grounded while also feeling alive and comfortable at all times — whether bustling with crowds, offering moments of contemplation, or doing both at once. As author Jane Amidon describes, GGN’s “gentle warping and cutting (or cupping and canting) of land form in both plan and section allows a flexible perception of spatial volume, enabling the site to be ‘empty when full, full when empty.’”

Congratulations james corner field operations!

The City of Seattle announced who they have chosen to reshape Seattle’s Central Waterfront, and based on personal conversations and emails it comes as no surprise that james corner field operations wins!  During all the hustle of 1,200 people at Benaroya, I must have misheard that they were going to announce this today–the 21st.  I was under the impression it was October 1st.

Nonetheless, I’d still like to give the other two teams the same exposure the first two did by listing each teams roster like already done for:

Design Team Finalists Part I and Design Team Finalists Part II (the winners!)

Honestly, jcfo was my #2 personal choice and therefore am still extremely happy to see that they’re in charge of Seattle’s continued mission to be a “world-class city.”

CONGRATS JCFO!!!

Being as excited as I am about this topic, you can be confident that SeattleSavvy.com will be the #1 resource for information over the years.  Please send any press releases, story ideas, guest written articles, or comments to support at SeattleSavvy dot com or click here.

On a side note, this is certainly proof that even with over 200 votes and jcfo’s #3 ranking, polling isn’t the most accurate way to gauge something’s popularity.

Condos that will benefit most from Seattle’s new waterfront

Seattle’s waterfront is about to change.  The visual scar and obnoxious noise of the viaduct will be a distant memory to future generations.  People from the city and from around the world will marvel at our completed project.   We’ll have to live through the mess of construction but at the end we gain a fabulous reward!

Speaking of reward, I’m urging buyers to consider investments in some of the condo buildings that will most greatly benefit from the removal of the unsightly concrete creature.  There are many to choose from and the increase in value could be very lucrative.  Just imagine having your current neighbor be some big name Belltown DJ who spins techno tunes 24-hours a day at wall pounding volume. It would reduce your value, yes?   Now image the HOA FINALLY kicking that kid to the curb and selling the unit to a quiet, calm and attractive neighbor. Someone with style and world class charm. Do you think that would make the price of your home go up? I’m sure of it!

Which buildings should benefit? Of course everyone within earshot of the nuisance will notice the improved sound quality but the following buildings are close enough to FEEL the difference too:

Pioneer Square Neighborhood

West Edge Neighborhood

Belltown Neighborhood

Waterfront Neighborhood

Is now the time to investigate an investment in one of these communities? Interest rates are ridiculously low and prices have stepped back five-plus years. With this large of a neighborhood upgrade you’d be doing yourself a favor to do some snooping. I’m ready to help.

Central Waterfront presentation video.

Thank goodness I was able to find this video of the presentation at Benaroya last night.  It’s a long one…  ENJOY!

Reshaping Seattle’s Central Waterfront attracts over 1,200 attendees!

Before I steal the City of Seattle’s thunder announcing what firm will take home the grand prize of assuming the lead designer role for reshaping Seattle’s Central Waterfront, I must first say how impressive the turnout was. Over 1,200 people packed the entire main floor of Benaroya Hall and some overflowed onto the second level. Most of all, I’d like to applaud each team that presented their ideas for an impressive display on not only their creativity and obvious hard work, but their commitment and passion as well.

Personally, I was floored by the event! The last couple of years have been distracting over this process in preparing for dismantling the Highway 99 viaduct with the dreaded ‘R’ word, all the hype over ESCALA and 1521′s success selling condos that start at $1 million. For the most part, most of us are familiar with the following video that gives us an idea on what we can expect from the Central Waterfront project:

Well, that video is pretty darn boring now. I really couldn’t be more excited about what incredible changes are going to happen to this city’s urban landscape based on improvements made to our waterfront. In fact, I really have no clue where to begin. After the almost 3.5 hour event, I posted shop right here at my computer and got lost in my words as I tried to organize who said what and what it was they said.

As far as who will play that role of lead design, it doesn’t even need to be said. If you were there, you already know and I truly would hate to spoil the surprise. Nonetheless, this topic cannot effectively be covered in one post. I just feel compelled to share how exciting this is and to get you excited about the information we’ll be posting between now and October 1st (announcement date of official lead design team).

Until then, we’re going to review our notes in more detail, and present each firms concepts to the best of our ability. If you would like to review each overview we publish, we encourage you to sign up by entering your name in email in our sidebar, or subscribe to our rss feed.

Also, we can’t help but to be curious on who you think is going to be chosen. Please select your idea on who should win with the poll on our sidebar.
