2 Reasons I Feel I Must Buy Google Stock Today!

July 8, 2009 by Justin Bowers · 2 Comments

google-tagI once bought stock based on a dream I had.  The dream was that a friend of mine called me wanting to borrow money to buy Drugstore.com when it first came out.  So, I listened to my intuition and traded my Starbucks for Drugstore.  I lost it all, and Starbucks jumped just a couple weeks later.  In fact I think I may still have some Drugstore stock laying around somewhere from over a decade ago.  It may now be enough to get a 6-pack of PBR, but I just don’t feel I’ve learned my lesson when I heard the news today about Google coming out with a new operating system.  Later I got a RT from another Seattle blogger about a post that discusses the real estate related map search by Google and it seemed to focus on discrediting it’s accuracy.  But, there’s no doubt in my mind that MLS data and IDX feeds will never be integrated into the Google brain one day or another.

So, what are my two inspirations?

  1. New Operating System coming in 2010.
  2. Efforts to create a real estate listing search.

Both can also be argued with a, “so?”  However, as a full-time Internet marketing professional, I see and use Google for virtually everything (email, searching, word processing, analytics, calendar, and more).

Here’s an email I got yesterday after setting up a new email account using Google Apps from a 52 year old real estate broker somewhere in southern Oregan:

Justin,
I love the Gmail functions.
I just sent myself a big honking to do list and printed it on my printer! SWEET!!
Since I am over 50, I had better get to bed because is it is WAY past my bedtime.
Thank you for making me learn new and very cool stuff.

I’m also building another website for a martial arts school in Auburn.  I received a list from them last night of requested changes and additions, then imported the Word doc into Google Docs so we can all easily administer the document.  With that said, I’ve always thought it was genius of Google to offer a free online word processor and spreadsheet program back when it came out several years ago.  At that time, I saw the attack they seemed to be taking against Microsoft.  Might I also mention Word actually crashed when I tried to initially open the Gmail sent Word document, and so I was forced to save everything, reboot, then open everything again to get it to work?  Anyhow, after rebooting my Vista and getting the document open, I was able to then move it to Google docs.  Now I’m hearing I can soon ditch Vista and Microsoft Office for Google OS and Google documents?  SOLD!

As I’m writing this and installing my Google Chrome web browser, I also can’t help but to think of how important Google search results are to my clients, and everybody else who has a business online.  Being the untouchable powerhouse they have been, how could buying 1 share at $437 be a poor investment?  Should I wait till it goes down then buy 2 shares?  I’m no expert in buying stock obviously since my 1st and last experience, but this one seems like a now brainer.

  2. Well, I’ve since looked at a chart of their profits, and it’s not all that impressive. For the price, not sure it’s really worth it. But, I’m not investor really, so my opinion on the matter isn’t worth much:)
